• In the vineyard

We adopt a protocol of respect for the land and the plants we cultivate, aware that we are what we eat and drink, which is why we always act with common sense.
Common sense is the ability to question oneself, to confront each other and with others, and last but not least, to always willingly accept the lessons that the vineyard and the soil teach us despite the difficulties this entails

  • In the cellar

We only vinify and process grapes from our own vineyards. Once the grapes are brought in, we proceed with separate vinification for each vineyard, aiming to achieve the best expression of the musts.
We work with the seasons to allow the wines to evolve naturally, without rushing any stages. Finally, we bottle the fruit of not just one year's work, but of all the years of work, experiences, and encounters that have led us to that moment.

  • In bottle

When possible, before releasing a reference, we prefer longer bottle aging. This is not always possible given the small quantities produced per reference, reminding everyone that Azienda Agricola is also a Business and not just Agricultural. This does not mean betraying one's wines and therefore oneself, but sometimes seeking the best compromise between economic sustainability and the enhancement of the work done. Here too, common sense, discussion, and continuous tastings show us the way forward.

  • In company

    Exchange, Discussion, and Constant Enjoyment.

We are passionate about what we do, and for us, wine is the ultimate goal, the reason we cultivate vines and soil. For those who enjoy it, it should be a means of gathering, exchange, and enjoyment.

Constant Variables, the documentary about Cantina la Smeralda

Where it all began

Cantina la Smeralda is an agricultural project that was initially conceived by Walter Menaggia and subsequently embraced and pursued by Eleonora and Luigi Menaggia, his second and third children, respectively. It began as a project in 2008 and transformed into a Farm in 2017, with the first bottles bearing the "Cantina la Smeralda" label released in September 2020.

The name comes from Villa la Smeralda, a house purchased by our family in 1998, where we discovered a bottle of 1972 vintage wine made by the first owners of the house and, indeed, of Cantina la Smeralda.

The passion for cultivating vines and their fruits began in 2008 with personal winemaking, in search of a solid starting point to lay the foundations for what is now Cantina la Smeralda. More than 10 years of knowledge to better understand our potential and establish the winery.
